Vice Chancellor Inaugurates Girl's Hostel and Moot Court
1) Inauguration of Girl’s Hostel
Professor Arun K Grover, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh in the presence of the Shri R.L. Kapoor, IAS (Retd), Advisor-cum-Secretary to the Vice Chancellor; Professor Deepak Kapur, Director, PU Regional Centre, Ludhiana; and Ms Neelam Batra, Warden, Girl’s Hostel, inaugurated and named the Girl’s Hostel at Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana. The Girl’s Hostel has been named after Ms Annie Besant, founder of the Home Rule Movement and President of the Indian National Congress in the year 1917. The function began with a formal welcome of the worthy Vice Chancellor Professor Arun K Grover and Shri R.L. Kapoor, ASVC by the Director Professor Deepak Kapur. Thereafter, there are was a recital of the Saraswati Vandana by the young students. This was followed by a welcome speech by the Warden Ms Neelam Batra, Director Professor Deepak Kapur, and an inaugural address by the worthy Vice Chancellor. Professor Grover recollected the history of this centre to its foundation day function held in 1959 when the PU Extension Library with more than 2000 distinguished guests of Ludhiana had gathered at this very campus in the presence of then Chancellor Shri V.V. Giri and then Vice Chancellor Professor Suraj Bhan. The academic programs began at PU Regional Centre, Ludhiana in 2003 with a three year LLB program followed by five year BALLB program in 2005, with addition of another program of MBA in the year 2007. Some unique initiatives of the PU Extension Library were discussed and highlighted by the worthy Vice Chancellor. He informed that whereas other two Extension Libraries set up in 1959 at Udaipur and Madurai have grown into full fledged Universities; there is much work that needs to be done at Ludhiana. He called for collaboration of/with different colleges based in Ludhiana to increase the number and quality of different programs of Panjab University offered at Ludhiana including the pre-PhD courses in different disciplines/programs of Panjab University. Professor Grover gave instances of such type of collaborations in the University of Punjab at Lahore (from where the Panjab University Chandigarh traces its origin) as also of similar efforts at Universities in the United States of America etc. Professor Arun K Grover interacted with the faculty, staff, students, members of Senate and the Press during the small party organised after the inauguration of the Annie Besant Girl’s Hostel.
2) Inauguration of Moot Court
After the inaugural function at the Annie Besant Girl’s Hostel, Professor Arun K Grover also inaugurated on 2/8/2013 the recently completed Moot Court at PU Regional Centre, Ludhiana. Professor Deepak Kapur, Director of Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana formally welcomed the Vice–Chancellor. Dr. Arti Puri- Coordinator for Laws, Dr. Ravi Inder Singh - Coordinator for MBA, and Mr. Chandra Prakash Chaudhary, Assistant Librarian of Panjab University Extension Library, Ludhiana made presentations about their respective disciplines highlighting their achievements and future plans and requirements. Faculty members of law and management, members of Senate, distinguished guests, and press were present. Thereafter, the Vice Chancellor addressed the gathering.
