China International Field Trip January 2013
Objective
The objective of the trip is to expose American, Indian and Chinese graduate students to the intricacies of Sino-Indian relations, to strengthen ties between students from the US, India and China with a demonstrated interest in this area, and to learn about the political, economic and strategic dynamics of these regional powerhouses.
Eligibility
Only a limited number of students will be selected to participate on this field trip; 8 students from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, 3 students at the Master’s level from Indian Institutions and 3 students at the Master’s level from Chinese Institutions. The ability to speak and write fluently in English is required. A demonstrated interest in Sino-Indian relations is also required for all participants.
Logistics
The official trip itinerary is expected to take place from approximately Sunday, January 13, 2013 – Friday, January 25, 2013 (please note that these dates are tentative and subject to some change). The new US-China-India Center (USICC) at SAIS, will cover airfare, hotel, group transportation, and breakfast, lunch and dinner. Students selected to participate in the trip will need to work closely with the staff at USICC for booking the round trip tickets to China which will be paid by the Centre. Students will be responsible for any additional expenses, i.e. visa fees, immunizations, personal expenses, tickets to cultural sites, etc.
Applications will have to be submitted to us by November 9, 2012. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. Please send all complete applications to nkota1@jhu.edu Accepted students will need to apply for Chinese visas immediately. The USICC will send each student a formal letter that can be used at the Chinese embassy in New Delhi.
