The Department of Geography, Panjab University invites fresh applications for admission in Masters in Remote Sensing and GIS against the vacant seats. The basic eligibility for the course is M.A./M.Sc. in Geography with at least 50 per cent marks and certificate of three months of computer knowledge from a recognized institution. The admission test will be held on Aug. 12, 2009 at 9.00 a.m. and the last date to apply with all particulars is Aug. 10, 2009 by 5.00 p.m. Those who applied earlier but could not qualify or did not appear in the admission test may contact the department latest by 10th August 2009. The admission form can be downloaded from www.pu.ac.in.
Remote Sensing and GIS is one of the most emerging areas that find application across the disciplines. The Govt. of India is promoting it by launching satellite after satellite (CARTO SAT, OCEAN SAT, Resource SAT etc.) so that information in the near real time mode is available to geographers and other geo scientists for the purpose of agriculture, forest, environment, urban and rural planning, land-use planning, soil, geology, terrain, water resources, disaster management etc. These data acquiring techniques and spatial data management tools are being used at almost every level of development by key organizations according to the Chairperson, Dept. of Geography.
