WINTER SCHOOL On Linux and Applications (March 9th to 20th, 2009)
Computer Science & Engg. Deptt. of Chandigarh Engineering College , Landran, Mohali is organizing a MHRD/AICTE sponsored WINTER SCHOOL on “Linux and Applications” w.e.f. March 9th to 20th, 2009.
This course is being conducted in collaboration with the Computer Science Deptt. of National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research, Chandigarh for the benefit of teaching faculty in AICTE approved technical institutions.
ABOUT THE COURSE
The open access, open source software, and open standards concepts have been garnering increased attention in the field of technical education and elsewhere. These benefits of open access, open source, and open standards are numerous. The benefits include lower costs, great accessibility, and better prospects for long-term preservation of scholarly works. Technical Education should embrace all three of these concepts now and in the future. The availability of original source code makes it easy to resolve many problems, and become independent of anyone specific vendors, programmers and suppliers. A new software movement based chiefly on free, open access to the source code of software is showing its tremendous power to fortify user sovereignty in the computing/ Internet marketplace. With open Source Software, we can enhance the software ourselves if we think the features are not exactly what we need. The following topics are planned to be covered:-
1. Introduction to Linux
2. Installation and configuration of Linux, boot process
3. Shell commands, Policies, N/w Setup
4. FTP server and Apache Server
5. LVM and S/w RAID
6. My Sql, NFS, Samba, DNS
7. Kernel & Module Management
8. Backup & Restore
9. Virtualization
TARGET GROUP AND ELIGIBILITY
Faculty members working in AICTE approved technical institutions can participate in this programme. These faculty members have to get themselves sponsored from the Principal/Head of Institution. Course material shall be provided as per AICTE guidelines.
REGISTRATION FEE
No registration fee is chargeable from technical institute’s teachers whose names are sponsored by the competent authority (Principal/Director) .Lunch and Tea will be provided.
HOW TO REACH
The beautiful campus is about 15 minutes drive from the Bus stand at Chandigarh and 25-30 minutes from the railway station. For reaching CGC Campus, on landing in the city ask the taxi/auto rickshaw for "Chandigarh Engineering College, Landran, and Mohali"
