EMPANELMENT OF INSTITUTIONS/SCHOOLS FOR THE PURPOSE OF USE AS EXAMINATION CENTRES FOR CONDUCTING PUBLIC EXAMINATIONS OF NIOS (Session 2008-09 onwards)
National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) is a National level Examination Board like CBSE and ICSE. It provides school level education in Open Distance Learning mode through its study centers all over the country. It conducts Public Examination all over the country (and at few centres outside the country) at Secondary and Senior Secondary level twice a year – first examination in April-May and second examination in October-November.
NIOS does not own and operate schools and institutions on its own and hence seeks the services of reputed schools in the formal system like Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs), Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVs), State Government Schools/private schools affiliated with CBSE/ICSE or any other State Education Board, for the purpose of acting as its examination centres for the public examinations.
For Secondary level the examinations are conducted over a period of 15 days whereas for Senior Secondary level examinations are conducted over a period of 21 days including Science Practical examinations. The number of student appearing in examination varies in between 3 lakhs to 8 lakhs appropriately depending upon the time of Public examination at which they are being conducted.
NIOS invites applications in prescribed performa from all categories of above mentioned schools/institutions who are interested in being considered for selection as examination centre for NIOS Public Examinations as mentioned above. The school/institute should have infrastructure, teaching and non-teaching staff, available as per the norms of NIOS for conducting public examinations smoothly in a fair and transparent manner as per the detailed guidelines available on the official website of NIOS viz., www.nos.org & www.nios.ac.in The detailed norms/guidelines as well as remuneration paid by NIOS for conducting various activities related to its examinations are also available on the website.
The application form can be downloaded and submitted physically or submitted on-line to the concerned Regional Director of NIOS at Regional Office address and Director (Evaluation) at the above address by 5th September 2008. Schools/Institutions who have been debarred or found involved in use of any unfair means during any public examinations of either NIOS or any other Examination Board need not apply. NIOS may inspect the applicant schools / institutions as per its requirement at any time.
