UP Free Laptop Scheme
Fulfilling the promise made during the Uttar Pradesh (UP) polls, the new Chief Minister of UP, Akhilesh Yadav have started distribution of free laptops to students who have cleared in their class 12 examination.
In the first distribution 10,000 HP laptops were distributed at the Colvin Taluqdars' College in Lucknow. The ambitious poll promise was made into a Rs 2800 crore project last year. Thisproject aimed to benefit students who passed out of Class 12 for free laptops and Class 10 for free tablet devices to help them in their studies.
Recently the Government also launched a website for students to track the progress in the scheme. The Website named uplaptop-tabletdistribution.in could be accessed in Hindi and in English languages. The specifications of the laptop which is being given to students have been uploaded at the website.
The laptop is running the latest generation 64-bit multi-core X86 Intel Pentium or equivalent AMD processor which will be supported by a 2 GB RAM and will offer 500 GB of storage space. This will be a dual-boot system with Windows 7 as primary boot and Linux or Ubuntu operating system as secondary boot.
