Regional Mathematical Olympiad 2008
(States of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and the Union Territory of Chandigarh)
Are you a senior secondary student with a brain for Mathematics? Here is an offer for you to prove your skills and win medals in the International Maths Olympiad. This is an opportunity to participate in a competition and to assess your performance in a test environment that is stimulating but non-threatening and leads to international recognition (Besides this test the only tests which lead to the international Mathematics Olympiad are the group Mathematical Olympiad conduct by CBSE and Novodya Vidyalaya) for those who really deserve.
The National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) will conduct Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) on February 1, 2009. The top thirty students will be called to attend an intensive training camp in Problem solving in mathematics in the month of May. About twenty students out of these thirty, who show good performance in the camp and subsequently in the postal problem assignments, are called for the camp the next year. These students are also awarded scholarship by NBHM. A team of six students is selected to take part in the International Mathematical Olympiad, out of the students attending the camp. Every student, among the top thirty has a chance to be selected in the team twice depending on his/her performance. Our region sends a team of about 30 students depending on the merit of the students to appear in the INMO test. The selection of these students is done in two tiers by firstly screening test and then followed by Regional Mathematical Olympiad test. The first round will be held on Sunday September 14, 2008 from 2.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. at the various Centres including Department of Mathematics, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
The competition is open to the students of class XI and XII, some meritorious students of class X may also appear in the test. Participants should apply latest by September 4, 2008. A training camp will be organized for the selected candidates, which will be followed by R.M.O. 2nd round to be held on November 9, 2008. For further details you may contact the Regional Coordinator, Prof. Vinod Kumar Grover, Department of Mathematics, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
