WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY (OPEN HOUSE 26th May to 7th June, 2008)
Coming June 5 is World Environment Day. Instead of having just a day of Earth & Environment activities, the Geology Department Panjab University invites the citizens of the city and adjoining areas to visit its Museum of Natural History from 26th May (Monday) to 7th June (Saturday) barring Sunday when PU are closed.
Within changed working hours, 8 am to 2 pm the museum would to open to all. It is the biggest and best in NW India and built with the efforts of generations of geologists over last 50 years, has rare collections of minerals, rocks, fossils from all over the country and several parts of the world. The recent discoveries of Dinosaurian fossil eggs and bones housed in the museum would especially attract the young school kids having their summer vacations.
From 8.30 am to 11.30 am everyday there would also be free screening of Earth, Environment, Wild Life Films in the Seminar Room of the Department for our guests. The films include productions supported bv British Council. BBC Film on Dinosaurs Dynasty and US Geologists' Research in Hawaii Volcanoes and German TV Film on Ladakh.
Panjab University want to specially invite the children and families of PU staff who have in routine missed out the excitement available in plenty in our wonderful premises. .
Panjab University appeal to citizens to come walking or cycling with earth and environment friendly posters in hand and dressed up in green or with T-Shirts painted to inspire environmental education and conservation.
